Now that Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson is confirmed to have returned in the Philippines, the Dacer family is worried that the alleged “mastermind” of the Dacer-Corbito murder case will swiftly get away from the allegations. However, the Palace assured the Dacer family that President Aquino will not interfere in such case.
Facing the public as a fugitive, Lacson finally showed himself to the public at a news conference at the Senate. He read a statement that served as the start of the press conference last March 28, 2011.
The Dacer-Corbito murder case one of of the highly publicized criminal cases in the country. The publicist, Bubby Dacer and his driver, Emmanuel Corbito were murdered in Indang, Cavite in the year 2000. Until today, the unsolved death case of the two is still on file. Lacson’s name was tagged because of the filed affidavit of the two main suspects namely: Glenn Dumlao and Cesar Mancao. In the affidavit, the two point Lacson as the mastermind of the said murder.
Senator Panfilo Lacson flew to Hong Kong last January 2010. It took more than a year before the senator went back to the country using a private plane. There had been reports from sources that Lacson had been hiding in Metro Manila even before the May 10 elections but such reports were unvalidated.
But the big issue here is the “special treatment” that the senator might get despite the accusations against him. In concern with this issue, the Presidential spokesman, Edwin Lacierda, gave the Dacer family the assurance that the Aquino Administration will not give any special treatment to the senator. The spokesman cleared that the victim’s family can be assured that President Aquino will not interfere in the case. Also the Executive department respects the independence of the judiciary, so the department will just let the rule of law and judiciary take care of Senator Ping Lacson’s concern.
