Zoo Animal Policies – It’s Good That You Know

Zoo has become a popular institution to people ever since this kind of tour spot was established. Study shows that an approximate 10% of people of the whole population visit a zoo annually. You’re probably one of those 10% who love seeing wild animals, right? Of course, who wouldn’t want to see a rare creature up-close when all you have to do is pay a few amount of money. However, visiting a zoo doesn’t mean that you can do whatever you want just because you paid for the admission price. Always remember that you’re still going to enter an institution. This means, no matter how happy or excited you can get, don’t forget to follow certain things, primarily zoo animal policies.

Although hundreds of zoo institutions have their own policies that are completely different from one another, there are general rules that are still imposed on every zoo establishment. Following these rules and policies will greatly help in keeping the zoo’s system and maintenance. If you don’t have any idea about the general zoo policies, here’s a refresher:

Smoking – Now this is an activity that you can probably say, prohibited in almost any public place. Although a zoo is an open area, smoking is greatly discouraged because there are some animals that are sensitive to smoke and might get their health affected. There are some zoos that provide smoking areas, with a considerable distance from the animals’ cages. Given that there are smoking areas provided in a zoo, wouldn’t it be better if you do your part, as a disciplined visitor, to get rid of smoking while you’re still in a zoo? This way, you did a double effort to help preserve the lives of the animals housed in this institution.

Food and Drinks – There is no argument when it comes to the topic that a human has to eat or drink when he’s hungry – no matter where he is. But if you’re in a zoo, have the responsibility of eating in a right dining area and don’t bring any food like chips and snacks while taking sight of animals. People feeding animals with their snacks is also prohibited on some zoos because it might affect the creatures’ diet and health. Keeping yourself from eating while strolling down the paths of zoo will also help the institution maintain its cleanliness.

Petting – Now among all zoo policies, this one is more serious because it can cause someone’s safety if not followed. The feeling of over fascination with animals sometimes makes a visitor do more than just observing the wild animal. There are some people who want to touch the animals out of curiosity, right? On some zoos, petting or caressing an animal is greatly prohibited. But some zoos do have petting houses where tame and small animals are allowed to be touched like goats, guinea pigs and penguins. This policy should be taught to kids more especially.

Outside Animals – This is one thing that most zoos prohibit – leashed pets. If you have a dog or cat with you and there’s is no way you can leave it, might as well do something else to leave it because zoos won’t accept any excuses for letting a leashed pet in its premises. Why that strict, you ask. Remember that you’re going to enter an animal institution. You know how some pets get agitated or angry when they see other animals right? To avoid chaos or possible accidents, it would be advisable to keep your pet from seeing other kinds of animals.

Zoo animals policies were imposed for you to abide on these. Following certain rules don’t take away the happiness. It’s just a safety measure for you, as a visitor, to have a safe and fun-filled day without having to worry about anything.
